Alcoholic monkeys

Think the only ones voluntarily consuming toxins on a regular basis are humans? Think
again! The world is full of examples of animals exploiting the intoxicating effect of nature,
and various species do get their buzz from delicious rotting fruits.

Taking one step further, these alcoholic vervet monkeys found an even more efficient
method to get their kicks, in emulating the behaviour of charter-tourists. As with humans, these alcoholic vervet monkeys can be subcategorised into social drinkers, regular drunks, binge drinkers and teetotalers (preferring little or no alcohol). Unlike humans, the monkeys won't call their best mates in the middle of the night to tell them how much they love them.
